Getting started
Do I need to install anything to use XLNTalk?
No. XLNTalk runs entirely in your browser using WebRTC and WebAudio. Open a link, allow your mic, and you’re in. There are native macOS, iOS and Android apps for power users, but they’re optional.
How do I create my first room?
Hit ‘New Room’, and share the URL. That’s the entire onboarding. Rooms are persistent — you can return to the same URL forever, or set them to expire after the call ends.
Audio
Why does XLNTalk sound better than other voice apps?
Three reasons: we use the full Opus codec at 48kHz with 320kbps peak bitrate (most apps cap at 24kHz/64kbps), our edge network keeps round-trip time under 15ms in 90% of regions, and our DSP pipeline preserves transient detail instead of squashing it.
Can I use my professional microphone?
Yes. Any USB, XLR-via-interface, or Bluetooth mic works. We auto-detect input gain and apply gentle level matching.
Does XLNTalk support spatial audio?
Yes. Spatial mode is opt-in per room and uses HRTF-based binaural rendering. Voices are positioned in a virtual room — proven to reduce cognitive load on calls longer than 30 minutes.
Privacy & security
Is my audio actually end-to-end encrypted?
Yes. Every byte is encrypted with AES-256-GCM using ephemeral X25519 keys. Our servers route packets but never possess the keys to decrypt them.
Where is my data stored?
Audio in transit is routed through the lowest-latency edge node, but is never persisted server-side unless you explicitly enable recording.
Pricing
Is XLNTalk really 100% free?
Yes. Every feature, every bitrate, every room size — free forever. No credit card, no trial, no upsell.
What’s the catch? How do you make money?
There isn’t one. Down the road there may be optional add-ons for enterprises (SSO, audit logs, dedicated capacity). The core voice experience for individuals, teams, and communities will always be free.
Technical
What happens on bad connections?
Our adaptive bitrate engine drops bandwidth gracefully — speech intelligibility is protected first, then richness, then frequency range. We can sustain a clear conversation on connections as low as 16kbps each way.
Is there a limit on room size or duration?
Free rooms hold up to 1,000 participants and have no time limit. Conversations can run for hours or days.
